First of all, the international standard for infrared thermometer accuracy is ±0.2℃. Therefore, it is acceptable if the difference is within ±0.2℃. However, using Exergen temporal artery thermometer is highly reproducible if you follow the tips below. Some people can get the same temperature readings for more than 10 consecutive measurements. You can try it out.

  1. When scanning, the probe should be slightly touch the skin without a gap, and follow the curve of the forehead. (see ACES for the reasons)
  2. Be sure to scan horizontally, do not move too fast.
  3. If the patient sweats, be sure to wait until the sweat is stopped before taking the measurement. Because sweat takes away the temperature.
